Juniper & Jane set to close

This is not a wind-up.  We're throwing in the towel. Time is up... (and many other textile and clock related puns!)

It is with a heavy heart that I write to advise that Juniper and Jane, at least in its current form, will shortly cease trading.
Jane and I would like to offer you our sincere thanks and warm wishes for your support over the past few years.
Jane walking through the forest
In the beginning
In April 2013 Juniper & Jane was established to bring authentic, considered, Scottish design to the giftware market. We carried out our design practice, marketing, customer service and wholesale trade with honesty, integrity and almost unrivalled passion for Scotland’s nature, people and places. Having faced a number of challenges along the way we learned a great deal about the nature of people, and business.

Challenges
The hardest lesson to face was the realisation that running an honest, authentic design business with integrity does not come cheap. When faced with a dozen or so individuals/businesses stealing our intellectual property, we kept our heads held high and continued with the belief that they would soon be found out as frauds. Now, we have discovered around FORTY individuals/businesses have popped up throughout the country, piggy-baking on our initial success, undercutting our prices and undermining our award-winning product. This has cost our family business in the region of £30,000 per year.
There is nothing we can do to stop this. We've exhausted all avenues. And we appreciate all suggestions people have made in the past.
This devastating impact has not only left us without the required capital to develop new products and grow the business, but it also has serious ramifications for our families primary income, not to mention our mental well-being.
It just goes to show how callous and senseless people can be in pursuit of money.
Despite all of this, Jane and I remain positive. We will continue to share our creativity with passion and integrity as described below. Who knows, maybe we'll inspire a whole new industry!

What's next?
Jane, as an artist continues to flourish. With more and more interesting commissions and exhibitions coming through I really look forward to seeing how she develops her practice over the next few years.
Jane's art studio will relocate to Paisley on 20th March 2017.

I’ll be supporting Jane on a few exciting projects. Developing my creative writing on www.samkilday.com And driving/tour-guiding around Scotland this Summer!

I will also continue designing and writing for fun or freelance here at www.juniperandjane.co.uk where I intend to share our business experiences - both good and bad - on the blog in the coming months.
Thank you
As I mentioned at the top, we feel incredibly grateful for all the support, advice, orders and loyalty from our customers, family, friends and fans over the past 4 years.
If we discover any way to resurrect Juniper & Jane, in a sustainable way in the future, you will be the first to know.
For now, good luck and all the very best to you and yours from us and ours.
It has been fun!
Sam, Jane & family.

  • Devastating news, can’t believe it. I was about to place an order. I had no idea this happened to you. Your products were quality and I love everything I’ve purchased. Do you have one clock for sale by any chance? I was also looking for the white thistle table mats and coasters. Please email me. Lots of love, Michelle & Jay xx

  • Low life’s that steal other people ’s ideas are scammers. That have no brains themselves and just making a quick buck . Pay back is a bitch and they will get stung at some point.
Best of luck 4 the future .

  • It’s with sadness that I read this, from the first time I met you guys and saw your original designs I new you were on to a winner and it’s with great sadness to hear that you’ve been forced to close, but I have seen with my own eyes the amount of copying that goes on in the craft world. As you know I keep a close eye on new businesses starting up and sadly I see blatant designs being copied all the time. Your talent can’t be stolen and you will both go on to flourish and I wish you both the very best. Sue x
